The Winkler
Flyers are a Junior A Hockey Club based out of Winkler, Manitoba
and they are one of eleven teams that make up the Manitoba
Junior Hockey League.
The
Orange and Black got their start in 1980 and since then they have enjoyed much success, including capturing
numerous MJHL Regular Season and Division titles, three Turnbull
Cups (MJHL Champions - 1991, 1992 & 1998) and one Anavet
Cup (MJHL/SJHL Champions - 1992) to go along with a Centennial
Cup (RBC Cup) finals appearance (Jr. A National Championship
- 1992).
Over the years
the Flyers have developed some very talented players including;
Ed Belfour, Steve Harder, Don Gibson, Larry Dyck, Darcy Gryba,
Duane Derksen, Kevin McKinnon, Jamie Penner, Pryce Wood, Ryan
Wood, Jody Wielgosh, Glen Thornborough, Chris Yaschyshyn,
Frank Bialowas, Wade Sambrook, Dane Litke, Robin Cook, Mike
Dick, Chris Thomas, Terry Friesen, David Burgess, Jeff McGill,
Eric Pateman, Brendan Cook, Colby Genoway, Jordan Little,
Rejean Lagace, Steve Mullin, Ross Oldcorn, Ian Vigier, Brent
Toews, Colin Herman, Josh Froese and Aaron Lewadniuk among others.
Not only have the Flyers achieved
great team success over the years, they have also experienced
individual success. In the 90’s alone over 40 Flyers
received scholarships to either NCAA or CIS Universities.
The Winkler Flyers are committed
to helping young players achieve their hockey and scholastic
goals, while maintaining an extremely high caliber of hockey.
