FLYERS END WINLESS STREAK WITH A BIG WIN OVER DAUPHIN - FEBRUARY 17

Less than 24 hours after the Flyers found themselves on the wrong end of a 7-2 score, they turned the tables with an 8-2 win over the visiting Dauphin Kings for their first win in their last eight games. Offensively the Flyers were led by a four point effort from Nate Breden, while Nick Lazorko and Jordan Peters collected three points each.

While the Kings enjoyed the first power-play of the contest, it was the Flyers who went on the attack as they opened the scoring on a two-on-one rush while shorthanded. With Breden carrying the puck down the right wing, Nat Howard went to the net and Breden found him with a pass that the former Swan Valley Stampeder snuck past netminder Lev Gammer at 3:23.

Breden then had a hand in Lazorko's first goal of the night at 8:08, before Kevin Schroeder responded with a power-play goal for the Kings to make the score 2-1.

Not long after that things got even more interesting when a line brawl broke out after Ryan McIntosh was hammered from behind by Dauphin's Josh Duyns in front of the Kings' bench. That hit drew the attention of Winkler forward Michael Falk who got his hands on Duyns, while Brian Whitehead, Cam Stevens and Stefan Schneider also got involved in the festivities.

When the dust settled Duyns was assessed a five minute major for the hit, which sent the Orange and Black to the power-play and this time Lazorko set up Breden who wired a shot from the left wing face-off circle past Gammer.

Before the period came to a close the Kings took a couple more penalties, resulting in a lengthy two-man advantage for the Flyers to start the second period and that led to their fourth goal of the afternoon.

With a shortage of bodies on the blueline after the brawl, Peters was moved back to the point and he made an immediate impact as he started off a tic-tac-toe passing play that finished with Breden finding Schneider alone in the slot and the Winkler Captain wasted little time finding the back of the net 3:23 into the period.

Then 5:17 later the Flyers added another power-play marker when Gammer's attempt the move the puck up ice ended up on Lazorko's stick and he made no mistake putting his second of the game into the wide open net.

Peters went on to round out the scoring in the second period when he took a pass from Schneider on a two-on-one and put it home to make it 6-1 through 40 minutes of play.

After Steven Shamanski put one past Dayn Belfour to cut the deficit to four at 7:32 of the final frame, the Flyers went on to add two more on the power-play before the final buzzer.

Peters scored the first of those goals at 11:56 when he blasted a point shot through Gammer, while AP Curtis Brolund finsihed things off with his first MJHL goal at 13:07.

Now that they've got their first win of February, the Flyers will now enjoy six days off before hosting the Winnipeg South Blues on Saturday, February 23rd.
