ORANGE AND BLACK SELECT FOUR AT ANNUAL MJHL BANTAM DRAFT - JUNE 3

This past weekend the eleven teams that make up the Manitoba Junior Hockey League gathered in Winnipeg for their Annual General Meeting and Bantam Draft and the Flyers used the first of their four selections to draft defenseman Ian Humphreys of Winnipeg, 6th overall.

Ian, who the Flyers considered the best defenseman in the draft, is described by Associate Head Coach/Director of Player Personnel Ernie Sutherland as a physical, stay-at-home defenseman who moves the puck well and has the ability to quarterback the power- play.

With their remaining three picks the Flyers selected forwards Craig Sigvaldason (Arborg, MB - 2nd Round), Warren Callis (Winnipeg, MB - 3rd Round) and Jesse Bernard (Killarney, MB - 5th Round).

Sigvaldason is big physical centerman with a goal scorers' touch, while Callis is a skilled left winger with excellent skating and puck handling skills and Bernard is a skilled, defensive centerman with great vision.

While these players are a few years away from suiting up in the MJHL, Sutherland and the rest of the Flyers' staff are hopeful that one day they will follow in the footsteps of former Bantam Draft picks; Kyle Wells (2005 - 5th Round), Ian Campbell (2004 - 2nd Round) and Cam Stevens (2004 - 4th Round), who all donned the Orange and Black last season.
