FLYERS STAGE A REMARKABLE COMEBACK AGAINST WINNIPEG - OCTOBER 12

After spotting the Saints a 3-0 first period lead, the Flyers looked like a completely different team in the second as they responded with three goals of their own, setting the stage for Stefan Schneider's third period marker which capped off a remarkable 4-3 comeback victory.

Goaltender Dayn Belfour was also instrumental in the victory, as he showed his resilience by turning aside the final 34 shots he faced after giving up those first period goals.

David Kurbatsky got the Flyers back on track with a power-play goal 1:59 into the second. Just six seconds after Derek Buors took a checking from behind penalty to put the Saints down two men, Kurbatsky walked out from the right of Winnipeg netminder Eric Potvin and put the puck off the far post and in for their first of the night.

With the Flyers still on the power-play, Schneider carried the puck behind the Saints goal and as Potvin moved across the crease to prevent what looked like a wrap around attempt, the Winkler captain made a drop pass to Jeff Van Siclen who quickly put it into the open side to make it 3-2.

While their power-play got them back in the game, their penalty-kill kept them in it. Following their second goal the Flyers were forced to kill off five straight penalties of their own and they did just that as the Saints attack was neutralized by Belfour and the rest of Winkler's penalty-killers.

In between all those penalties the Orange and Black managed to even the score on the strength of Ramsay Fehr's first of the season. After blocking a Saints shot just inside the Flyers line, the Morden product broke in on a two on one and rather than passing, he fired a shot that beat Potvin low on the blocker side.

The Flyers improved play carried over to the third as they tested Jordan Dreger, who came on relief of Potvin after Fehr's tying goal, with 15 shots in the frame. While he stopped 14 of them, the one he didn't turned out to be the game winner.

Van Siclen started the play by carrying the puck over the Saints line and attempting to drive past two defenders, but he was hauled down before he could get a shot off. But with the puck loose in the crease and a large gathering of players trying to find it, Schneider managed to jam it past Dreger for what turned out to be the game winning goal.

The Flyers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host the Beausejour Blades for their third meeting of the season. The Flyers won the previous two meetings by a combined score of 16-5 and they will be hoping for more of the same as they look to make it two wins in a row.
