Captain Stefan Schneider opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the contest and later added another, while also chipping in two assists and dropping the gloves for the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" as he led the Orange and Black over his former club, the Neepawa Natives, by a score of 6-1 tonight in Winkler.
Coming off Sunday night's disappointing loss, the Flyers wasted little time getting back in the win column.
They didn't waste anytime getting on the scoreboard tonight either as they scored on their first shot of the game when Schneider beat goaltender Justin Cote on a wrap-around.
Despite that, Cote would turn out to be a big story in the first as he held his team in it by turning aside 17 shots.
However, the Flyers put one more past him before the period came to a close. Once again Schneider had a hand in it as Michael Falk took his pass from behind the net and quickly fired it past Cote on the blocker side at 18:55.
While Cote was being fed a steady diet of rubber between the pipes for the Natives, Flyers netminder Jayme Janzen stopped each of the six shots he saw, a feat which he replicated in the second as he kept Neepawa off the board through 40 minutes of play.
Early in the second David Kurbastky increased Winkler's lead to 3-0 with a power-play marker, but offense took a backseat to fisticuffs for the remainder of the frame as the Natives frustrations boiled over and the Flyers stood their ground.
The third period saw the Flyers offense return to the forefront as they put three more past Cote to take a 6-0 lead.
At the 4:00 mark of the period Schneider collected his second of the night when he cleaned up the rebound of Nick Lazorko's initial shot.
Lazorko then found the back on the net himself at 9:57 as he forced a turnover in the neutral zone and broke in alone on a shorthanded breakaway before beating Cote high on glove side.
Their final goal came off an offensive zone face-off which was won by Schneider. The puck then found its' way back to the point for Caleb Suderman, who ripped a one-timer over the shoulder of Cote at 11:10.
With the Flyers clearly in the driver's seat, the only matter left unresolved was Janzen's shut out bid, but unfortunately it was spoiled by Shael Hechter with just 2:24 remaining.
The Orange and Black will now look to carry the momentum they built tonight, into Winnipeg on Thursday where they will take on the Blues at the Century Arena.
