The list of key returning players coming back this season for the Winkler Flyers continues to grow. With the signing of their leading scorer from last season in Nick Lazorko announced last week, the Orange and Black also be returning veterans Jordan Peters, Michael Wilgosh, Caleb Suderman and Troy Kliever back in camp at the end of this month.
Peters, Wilgosh, and Kliever were second, third, and fourth in the Flyers point race last season while Suderman had a solid year despite missing nearly 3 months due to injury.
"Those guys were a big part of our club last year being 18 and 19 years old and now they're 19 and 20 so more mature, bigger, stronger, wiser. I just expect them to be better players and that can only help our team," said Head Coach and General Manager Mark Thiessen.
Suderman and Kliever will anchor the Flyers experienced blue line while contributing offensively as well.
Peters should blossom with last season being only his first full year as a forward after the Flyers moved him from the blue line halfway through the 2007/2008 campaign. The gifted power forward is a threat both with his physical play and his offensive abilities.
Wilgosh showed nothing but promise after the speedy, skilled forward came over in a trade from Selkirk last season.
So those four players combined with Lazorko and Shael Hechter, who the Flyers traded for earlier this off season, should be a great core from which to work around.
Now with training camp set to start in just a few weeks Flyer Nation should be in store for an exciting camp.
"This year I expect a really competitive camp, I know we have a lot of vets coming back but I think they knew when they left in spring that they better be ready for fall camp and if they're not they are going to be left behind," says Thiessen.
Thiessen added, "The message was pretty clear from me during the summer that if they're not ready to go then just watch yourself."
"Just be ready to play because this year is our year to get after it and that's what we are going to do."
75 players will be at Flyers training camp when it kicks of on August 29th.
If you would like a sneak peak of this year team you will want to keep these dates and times in mind.
