GREATEST FLYERS TEAM EVER WILL MAKE UP 2012 FLYERS HALL OF FAME CLASS - JANUARY 20

The Winkler Flyers have announced the ’91-'92 Flyers team will make up the 2012 class of the Winkler Flyers Hall of Fame. Arguably one of the greatest teams to ever hit the ice in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, the ’91-’92 Winkler Flyers steamrolled their way to the Centennial Cup final after winning the MJHL Championship and Anavet Cup in ’91-‘92.

After winning the organization’s first ever MJHL title the year before, the Winkler Flyers of 1991/1992 were a near unbeatable force in junior hockey. With 2011 Flyers HOF inductee Peter Derksen at the helm, the Flyers had a 42-5-1 regular season record during the ’91-’92 season and defeated the St. James Canadians four games to one to claim the Turnbull Trophy (MJHL Championship) for the second straight season.

The Flyers then went on to beat the Melfort Mustangs four games to one to win the franchise’s first and only Anavet Cup (Manitoba/Saskatchewan Series). They then made their way to the Centennial Cup final where they fell to the Thunder Bay Flyers.

With a combination of speed, size and skill, the ’91-’92 Flyers played an intimidating brand of hockey and their .895 winning percentage is still the benchmark in the MJHL. They outscored their opponents by a count of 363-191 in ’91-’92 and are remembered to this day as the best group of players to ever wear the Orange and Black uniform.

The ’91-’92 Flyers team will be inducted into the Winkler Flyers Hall of Fame during the Flyers 2nd annual HOF Banquet on Saturday, February 25th at the Morden Access Event Centre. Tickets are $125. For more information contact Henry Siemens (henry@winklerflyers.com).
