This year we will be featuring a full staff of instructors that have been long standing members of the Winkler Flyers organization. Mike Sofillas will return for his second season as a head instructor after playing with the club in 2013-2014. Mike has also served as an on ice assistant and off ice supervisor in past years. We are also pleased to announce that Jordan Peters will be joining us as a head instructor this year. Jordan spent three years playing for his hometown junior team from the 2007-08 season through 2010. Jordan and Mike are looking forward to sharing their plethora of playing and coaching experience with all of this years participants
A popular addition to the Hockey School the hockey school has featured a dedicated goaltending instructor each of the past two years. Goaltenders will be able to get excellent focused feedback as space is limited.
As in past seasons, current members of the Winkler Flyers Jr. A Hockey Club will be assisting with the hockey school as assistants and in supervising roles. This will include assisting the head instructors during on ice sessions to ensure an excellent ratio of instructors to players, leading a newly revamped dryland session, as well as supervising in dressing rooms and during lunch breaks.
Morgan Mullin will return as instructor for the all girls session at the hockey school this year. Morgan is an accomplished high performance player, having played four years with the University of Maine NCAA Div 1. She helped develop the Pembina Valley AAA model for Girls Hockey. As an educator, Morgan provides the Winkler Flyers Hockey School with a professional level of instruction and motivation. Morgan will be assisted by other high quality female assistants who have had success playing hockey in the Pembina Valley
WHAT IS OFFERED
The Winkler Flyer Hockey School offers instruction for improvement on the basics of hockey. Skating, shooting, passing, puck handling as well as giving and receiving checks (for the appropriate ages) are all skills that will be covered, in addition to many others. On the final day of the Hockey School there will be skills stations set up where participants can test the various skills they have acquired.
Supervisors will be available prior to ice sessions for limited help with equipment fitting and tightening.
The Winkler Flyers Hockey School is a FULLY SUPERVISED program. Parents or guardians need only drop off participants prior to the first ice session and be available for pick up following the last ice session. Schedules will be announced and published in early July based on the registration numbers as of July 1.
WHAT DO I NEED?
To participate in the on ice session at the Winkler Flyers Hockey School, athletes are required to have all necessary hockey equipment. For dryland, a good pair of running shoes and athletic clothing should be worn. The Hockey School will provide allergen free snacks to all participants. Athletes are required to provide their own lunch.
