FIRST CUTS MADE AFTER MAIN CAMP ENDS - INTRASQUAD GAME MONDAY - AUGUST 28

Sixty nine players hit the ice on Friday night and forty seven remain after the Winkler Flyers 2011/12 main camp came to an end on Sunday. It was an intense three days that saw the Flyer hopefuls broken down into four teams playing a number of scrimmage games. The remaining players will take part in the annual Black vs White intrasquad game on Monday night.

A NEW SEASON BEGINS AS FLYERS MAIN CAMP GETS UNDERWAY - AUGUST 26

ORANGE AND BLACK CRUISE FOR A CAUSE AT A&W IN WINKLER - AUGUST 25

On Thursday, the Winkler Flyers took time to help out the A&W restaurant in Winkler with their "Cruisin for a Cause" event. For every Teen Burger sold on Aug. 25th, A&W restaurants across Canada donate $1 to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada to go towards funding research and providing life-changing services for people touched by MS.

ALEXANDER EARNS SCHOLARSHIP TO IOWA STATE CYCLONES - AUGUST 25

The Winkler Flyers have graduated yet another player to university hockey. Goaltender Peter Alexander has accepted a scholarship to Iowa State University. Alexander wracked up 43 regular season wins in his two seasons as a Flyer and was named the team’s playoff MVP this past season.

PEARSON BRINGS IN LOCAL GOALTENDER TO COMPETE FOR SPOT - AUGUST 19

As the 2011/12 season nears, the Winkler Flyers have announced the acquisition of goaltender Tyler Oswald (93) from the Dauphin Kings in exchange for future considerations. The Sanford, Manitoba native spent the past three seasons with the Pembina Valley Hawks of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League and also suited up for the WHL's Saskatoon Blades this past season.

WILGOSH MOVES TO CIS ACCEPTING A SCHOLARSHIP TO UBC - AUGUST 16

The Winkler Flyers have announced that five year Manitoba Junior Hockey League veteran Michael Wilgosh has accepted a scholarship to play at the University of British Columbia this fall. Wilgosh tore apart opposing defenses over his five years in the MJHL split between Winkler and Selkirk. The UBC Thunderbirds play in the CIS, which is the top collegiate hockey league in Canada.

ORANGE AND BLACK BRING IN FORMER ALL-STAR MULLIN AS ASST. COACH - AUGUST 3

The Winkler Flyers have announced former Orange and Black defenseman Steve Mullin will serve as the teams new Assistant Coach for the 2011/12 season. Mullin played two seasons in Winkler in the early 2000's before playing NCAA Div I hockey with the Maine Black Bears. He coached the Pembina Valley Hawks to the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League championship in 2010 and also guided them to the finals of the Telus Cup West Regionals that season.
