Ken Pearson is one of the most respected and admired coaches throughout western Canada. Over the last 15 years he has scouted and coached in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey and the Western Hockey league.

Pearson began his coaching career in Neepawa in 1994 as an assistant coach helping the Natives clinch the Allard Division title. From 1995 to 1998, Pearson also served as the Manitoba scout for the Tri City Americans of the WHL.

In 1996 he moved behind the Flyers bench as an assistant to Jeff Wiest until 1998, winning the MJHL title in 1998. He was an assistant coach for the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders for the bulk of the 1997-98 season but returned to Winkler for the ’98 post-season.

He stayed with the Winkler Flyers organization until 2002 taking over as Head Coach and General Manager in 1999.

Under the leadership of Pearson, the Flyers of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s were a force, winning numerous division championships, making MJHL finals appearances in 2001 and 2002, along with setting many team records. Also during that time a large number of players accepted scholarships to NCAA Division I schools and other quality programs.

Pearson moved to the Brooks Bandits (AJHL) from 2002-2004 where he was named a Coach of the Year Finalist in 2003.

He then moved back to Manitoba where he coached the Winnipeg South Blues from 2004-2008. There he led the Blues to an MJHL Championship in 2006, setting numerous team records while being nominated for the Coach of the Year award twice.

Most recently, Pearson was the Head Coach and General Manager of the SJHL’s Battlefords North Stars where he was once again nominated for the Coach of the Year award in 2010.

From 2005 through 2011, Pearson was a member of the NHL Central Scouting team serving as an area scout identifying draft eligible players for the NHL draft.

Pearson also has experience coaching at the pro level. On two occasions he has been a guest coach during the Manitoba Moose training camp. Some of his other coaching accomplishments include the CJAHL Top Prospects game, Team Canada West World Junior A Champions and Team Manitoba Canada Games.

Ken finished his playing career with the Neepawa Natives Junior A Hockey Club in 1994, at which time he then accepted a position as an assistant coach with Neepawa.
