On June 3rd, the 2024 MJHL Draft was held online, and the Winkler Flyers had first overall pick! We also selected some of what we believe are the best hockey players, and best people in Manitoba! See below for our full draft recap with comments from Flyers Director of Player Personnel Joe Ftoma.
Round 1 Pick 1 – Layne Schofield
“Layne’s leadership ability, character and drive to win makes him a great fit for our organization. Layne continues to develop all areas of his game and is driven to wear the Orange and Black. Layne was a force at Flyers Pre Draft Development Camp.”
Round 1 Pick 12 – Aiden Jacobson
“Aiden plays the game hard every night. His character and skill set are what allows him to be a consistent threat in all situations.
Aiden really impressed our scouting staff at Flyers Pre Draft Development Camp.”
Round 2 Pick 18 – Jack Swaenepoel
“Jack’s play this season continued to mature, he’s shown the ability to develop the fine details in his game. Jack’s character and leadership ability make him a great fit for our organization. Jack had a good showing at Flyers Pre Draft Development Camp.”
Round 2 Pick 21 – Ryler Gates
“Ryler’s ability, character and development path makes him a great fit for our organization. We are excited to bring Ryler and his family into Winkler. Ryler also showed well at Flyers Pre Draft Development Camp.”
Round 3 Pick 38 – Noah Stott
“Noah had a really nice season with U17 Eastman, were his strength with the puck continued to improve.
Noah’s character and ability to be coached on the fly was evident at Flyers Pre Draft Development Camp, this player continues to impress us.”
Round 4 Pick 42 – Ethan Stanley
“Ethan’s on ice play and production combine with his character and willingness to develop makes him a great fit for our organization.
Round 4 Pick 51 – Connor Zuk
“Connor is a puck moving defender that continues to develop his mind for the game. His Father played for the Flyers and we are excited to bring Connor and his family back into the organization.Connor had a really nice showing at Flyers Pre Draft Development Camp.”
Round 5 Pick 53 – Zachary Lansard
“Zach is a really nice player with great character. His development and consistency on and off the ice the past few seasons really sets him apart.”
Round 6 Pick 77 – Colter Martens
“Colter’s consistency throughout this past season was outstanding. Colter plays the game hard and continues to develop.
His character and ability to play different rolls really showed at Flyers Pre Draft Development Camp.”
