The Winkler Flyers have acquired 2005 Defenseman Blake Matheson in a trade with the Olds Grizzlys (AJHL). The Grizzlys receive future considerations in exchange.
Matheson scored 6 goals and 8 assists for 14 points as a 17 year old in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Olds Grizzlys.
General Manager and Head Coach Justin Falk spoke about Matheson “Blake plays with the hardness to his game that will compliment our team. With parts of 3 years of Junior A under his belt he brings added experience to our back end. His ability to end plays in our defensive zone, puck movement ability along with his offensive instincts will translate well within our group. We look forward to getting him acclimated and welcome him to Winkler.”
