Flyers Add Alumni Bates To Coaching Staff

Joining General Manager/Head Coach Justin Falk, Assistant Coach Ryan White, Director of Player Personnel Riley Dudar and Director of Player Development Eric Fehr as Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach is Flyers Alumni Coltyn Bates.

The Brandon, Manitoba product played 3 full seasons with the Orange and Black, scoring 47 goals and 98 assists for 145 points in 169 games played. He went on to receive a scholarship to University of Wisconsin Superior (NCAA Div III) where in four seasons he played in 88 games scoring 47 points in that time. Bates is hungry to learn and grow back in Winkler, a place he has many fond memories with. Bates will aide in the administrative and management duties of the hockey club.

General Manager and Head Coach Justin Falk spoke on why he brought Bates in “Coltyn has proven over the past 14 months with his passion and work ethic behind the scenes that he is ready for this next opportunity. The dynamic he brings and how he gels with our current staff and City employees was evident, especially over this past weekends development camp. On behalf of our Flyers staff, we are thrilled to add a man of Coltyn’s character and look forward to his positive contribution and commitment to the Flyers organization and City of Winkler.”

Bates gave his thoughts on being named Assistant GM and Assistant Coach ā€œ”I’m super excited to be back here in Winkler. I’ve been part of the organization since I was 15 years old. This is where I kickstarted my junior career. The team and this community gave me the opportunity to take my hockey career to the next level and having the opportunity to give back and help these kids achieve their dreams is what it’s all about. So, to have the opportunity to work with Justin and the rest of the staff here in Winkler is something I’m very grateful for and with Iā€™m super pumped to get things going with the players and City of Winkler! I believe this is one of the best places you can play Junior A hockey with the facilities and more importantly the people and the support this City always has for the Flyers which, is a main reason I love this place!ā€

We would like to welcome Bates back to the Flyers organization and are excited to see him grow into his new role behind the desk and the bench.

Welcome back to the Orange and Black, Coltyn!
