FLYERS END PRESEASON WITH LOSS IN SELKIRK

The Winkler Flyers eight game preseason schedule came to an end on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss in Selkirk. It was the Flyers third game in less than three full days as the Orange and Black now prepare for the 2015-2016 MJHL Regular Season which begins this coming Friday in Steinbach.

 

Coming off back to back wins over the Neepawa Natives on Friday and Saturday, the Winkler Flyers headed to the Selkirk Recreation Complex looking to run their preseason winning streak to five games.

 

Selkirk scored the games first goal 13:48 into the first period when Tyler Edwards beat Flyers’ starter Ryan Larochelle with the only goal of the opening period. The Flyers pushed back in the second frame, outshooting the Steelers 13-5 in the period, but it was the home team that extended their lead to 2-0 at the 9:09 mark of the period.

 

Outshooting the Steelers 19-15 through 40 minutes, the Flyers looked to get back into the game in the third. Winkler failed to cut into Selkirk’s lead and the Steelers would add an empty net goal with 13 seconds left with win their first preseason game of the year, 3-0.

 

Ryan Larochelle made 22 saves on 24 shots in his second start of the preseason. Winkler outshot the Steelers 27-25.

 

The Flyers, who finished the Manitoba Junior Hockey League preseason with a (5-3) record will now prepare for the start of the 2015-2016 Regular Season schedule which begins Friday, September 25th in Steinbach.

 

The Winkler Flyers opening day roster will be announced in the coming days.
