The Winkler Flyers are proud to announce the commitment of forward Nicholas McKee to the York University Lions (USports) men’s hockey program.
“Thank you to the Winkler Flyers and everyone who’s been a part of my last four years. From my teammates and coaches to my billets, trainers, and the entire Winkler community — you’ve all made this an incredible ride. The friendships, the memories, and that championship are things I’ll never forget. I’m especially grateful to the coaches for pushing me every day and helping me grow both on and off the ice. I’m going to miss playing in a packed Centennial Arena in front of the best fans in the league. I’m so thankful for these past four years and excited for what’s ahead.” said McKee.
“We are thrilled to see Nicholas commit to York University. He’s been one of our most consistent players all season—probably the best practice player we had day in and day out. His habits are exceptional, and he’s the kind of guy who makes everyone around him better. McKee was one of the top defensive forwards in our league. Smart, reliable, blocks shots, always in the right position, and his skating and forechecking made life tough on opponents. What really stood out this year was the offensive jump he took. He became a real presence around the net, scoring a mix of greasy goals and highlight-reel finishes. No matter who we played him with, that line was going to drive play while being reliable. He earned every bit of this opportunity. York is getting a great person and player,” said General Manager and Head Coach Matt Melo.
We’re incredibly proud of Nicholas for everything he accomplished in a Flyers uniform, and we look forward to cheering him on as he continues his hockey journey at York University!
