FLYERS’ OFFENSIVE STRUGGLES CONTINUE AGAINST KINGS – NOVEMBER 16

The Winkler Flyers lost their third game in a row, dropping a 6-2 decision to the visiting Dauphin Kings at the Access Event Centre in Morden. After beating the Kings in their previous two meetings, the Flyers failed to capitalize on their opportunities as their offence continues to look for consistency.

The Kings got the early jump on the Flyers in Morden as forward Grady Hobbs split through the Winkler defense and put the visitors up 1-0 just past the six minute mark of the opening period. The Flyers would get that one back before the end of the period as rookie forward Eric Fawkes carried the puck down the right wing side and dropped it back to Colton Friesen who fired a shot through the five-hole of Kings goalie Brennan Kitchen to tie the game 1-1.

It was a rocky start to the second frame for the Flyers as the Kings would regain the lead nearly six minute in, and not even two minutes later, Dauphin went in front 3-1 thanks to a lucky bounce on the power-play. Even through Winkler continued to generate chances, and would outshoot the Kings in the hockey game, Winkler entered the third period trailing by two goals.

The Flyers fortunes did not improve in the third as the first two goals of the period were in their net. Then with 6:28 left in regulation, Eric Fawkes picked up his second assist of the game setting up Josh Kagan who scored his fourth of the season to cut Dauphin’s lead to 5-2. However, the bounces would continue to go the Kings way as they would tack on another one before the end to take the game 6-2.

Riley Morgan took the loss in goal making 28 saves. Winkler ended up outshooting the Kings 36-34. The Flyers were 0-for-4 on the power-play and 3-for-4 on the penalty-kill.

The Flyers (11-9-2) will host the Kings again on Saturday afternoon. Puck drop at the Access Event Centre in Morden is 2:30pm. You can catch the game live with a subscription to www.hockeytv.com
