The Winkler Flyers kicked off 2025 with a convincing 5-2 win over the Niverville Nighthawks, showcasing a balanced attack and steady team defence to secure the victory.

It didn’t take long for the Flyers to make their mark, as Connor Jensen opened the scoring just 1:07 into the game on the power play, with assists from Niklas Gudmundson and Jayce Legaarden. Winkler kept the pressure on in the second period, with Nicholas McKee doubling the lead at 5:57, set up by Gudmundson and Sully Ross.

The Nighthawks responded with a power-play goal late in the middle frame, but the Flyers slammed the door shut in the third. Sully Ross struck early at 7:12, followed swiftly by rookie Will Lyons just 43 seconds later. Nicholas McKee capped off the scoring with his second of the night at 18:01, assisted by Connor Jensen and Kam Thomas.

Between the pipes, Liam Ernst continued his consistent play picking up where he left off before the break, stopping 21 of 23 shots to earn the win.
