OFF-SEASON ROSTER MOVES CONTINUE WITH TWO SIGNINGS AND A TRADE

The Flyers have traded forward Hayden-James Berra (94) to the Grande Prairie Storm (AJHL) for future considerations as the club continues to get their roster together for the upcoming season. Winkler also signed goaltender Gavin Klassen (96) and defenseman Jordan Wall (96) from Altona and Winkler respectively for the 2014-2015 campaign.

Berra, who is from Prince George, B.C., recorded 26 points (11 goals – 15 assists) in 60 regular season games played with the Flyers in 2013-2014.

“Huge thanks to Ken Pearson, Ernie Sutherland and Nick Fuher, and the entire Winkler Flyers organization for a memorable season. I could not have asked for a better group of coaches and teammates.” said Berra.

“Hayden provided good leadership in the dressing room and good depth on the ice. This move was made for him to play more and give us an opportunity to put a younger player into his spot.” Said Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Ken Pearson.

Gavin Klassen began the season as the Flyers backup goaltender and played the majority of the year with the Pembina Valley Hawks of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. The Altona native sported a 12-14-2 record with a 3.11 goals against average and a .897 save percentage.

“Gavin is a guy we are very familiar with, having started the season with us and playing in some emergency starts for us. He’s a quality Pembina Valley area kid who will push for the number one spot.” Added Pearson.

“I’m glad to be a part of the Flyers organization. They’ve treated me well during the time I’ve spent with them as a call up and the coaching staff has helped me develop as a player. I got to know a bunch of the guys last season and they’re a great young group that I think has an opportunity to have a lot of success in the coming season.” Said Gavin Klassen.

Jordan Wall was the captain of the Northlands Parkway Collegiate Nighthawks this season and had 64 points (31 goals – 33 asssits) in 42 games played in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League. The Winkler native also played two games with the Flyers as an “AP” and recorded an assist.

“Wall is a solid local product who will fill out our d-corps. Was good in the two games he played with us last season and a guy we have confidence in.” added Pearson.

The Flyers would like to welcome Gavin and Jordan and their families to the Flyers organization and would like to wish Hayden all the best in the future.
