The Winkler Flyers gave up four second period goals in a 4-0 loss to the Blizzard on Saturday night in the finale of their two game visit to OCN. The Flyers certainly earned their chances but were unable to execute when it counted, dropping their second consecutive game up north.
After letting a third period lead slip away on Friday night, the Flyers got off to a good start the second time around, outshooting OCN 7-3 in the first 20 minutes. The Flyers had a number of great chances come up short and headed into the first intermission in a scoreless tie.
For the second straight night the Blizzard scored first with goal number one coming just before the four minute mark of the second. That goal would spark a series of fortunate breaks for the home side as Blizzard Captain Tony Apetagon scored a power-play goal seven minutes in and added a short-handed goal not even two minutes later. He would then assist on OCN’s second power-play goal of the period later in the frame and the Flyers found themselves down 4-0 through 40 minutes despite out chancing the Blizzard in the hockey game.
The third period was full of more Winkler chances but the offensive woes of the Orange and Black would unfortunately continue as their record slips to 12-12-2.
Britt League took the loss in his second straight start as Winkler outshot OCN 25-23. The Flyers went 0-for-8 on the power-play and 3-for-5 on the penalty-kill.
The Flyers will host the Portage Terriers on Tuesday, November 27th at the Morden Access Event Centre. Puck drop is at 8pm and you can stream the game live with a subscription to www.hockeytv.com
