SONNE COMMITS TO NORTHLAND COLLEGE IN WISCONSIN – APRIL 25

Winkler Flyers forward Kurt Sonne will be suiting up next season with the Northland College Lumberjacks (NCAA Div III) based in Ashland, Wisconsin. Sonne played his 20 year old season with the Flyers, finishing the year with the second most assists on the team.

The Flyers acquired the Maple Ridge, B.C. native in an early season trade and he fit in perfectly right away. The smooth skating forward played in 56 regular season games for Winkler, recording 47 points (9 Goals – 38 Assists).

“We have been recruiting Kurt for quite some time and he’s exactly the type of player, but more importantly the type of person our young locker room needs right now.” said Northland College Head Coach Seamus Gregory.

“He’s had a tremendous year in Winkler and we feel the sky is limit for Kurt as he continues to improve as he gets a little older. He understands what it takes to win and coming from a storied franchise like Winkler we couldn’t be happier to have him at Northland for the foreseeable future”. Concluded Gregory.

The Lumberjacks play NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey in the Northern College Hockey Association in Wisconson. Sonne is the third member of the Winkler Flyers to make a commitment to an NCAA program already this season, joining Tyler Jubenvill (Bemidji State – NCAA Div I) and Jordan Williamson (Curry College (NCAA Div III).

The Flyers congratulate Kurt on his commitment to Northland College and wish him and the Lumberjacks all the best in the future.
