Winkler Flyers at Winnipeg Blues January 31st

The Flyers traveled to Winnipeg for some Saturday night hockey with the Blues.

Winkler came out strong in the opening period, firing 22 shots on goal overall and played well in their own end. Riley Fequet found the back of the net on a rebound after he helped create an odd man rush, while Tanner George connected on a play with Charles Bernier, giving the Flyers a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Winkler continued playing well in the second period, creating opportunities, and getting good chances on goal. Will Lyons capitalized on the man advantage on a ricochet in front of the net, giving the Flyers a 3-0 lead. The Blues managed to capitalize on one of the few opportunities they had cutting the margin to 3-1 after 40 minutes. Shots were 36-15 in Winkler’s favour.

Captain Kam Thomas tipped one home for the Flyers early into the 3rd (1:28), and would prove to seal the victory at 4-1. There was some physical play throughout the frame as the Flyers held their own and stuck with the game plan.

Notes: Liam Ernst stopped 23 of 24 shots, also chipping in with an assist, Rhylan Baxter had 2 assists.
