Winkler Flyers Name Forward Kam Thomas As Captain

The Winkler Flyers have named hometown forward Kam Thomas as team captain for the 2025–26 season.

At 19 years old and entering his second year with the team, Thomas becomes the first Flyer to wear the “C” since the 2023–24 season. Thomas has quickly emerged as a leader, earning the respect of his teammates and staff through his commitment to the community, his character, and the way he carries himself on and off the ice.

“There couldn’t be a more ideal fit to be named the next captain of the Winkler Flyers. Kam is a local product who’s deeply respected in our community and even more so in our dressing room. He’s a player who not only upholds the standards of our culture but actively drives them forward. He cares for people extremely well, plays a hard working and honest game, and is willing to do whatever it takes to win. We believe KT fully embodies what it means to be a Winkler Flyer, and we could not be more excited to see him earn this honour. ” – Winkler Flyers GM & Head Coach Matt Melo

For Thomas, the honour comes with deep personal meaning. Not only is he a product of the local minor hockey system, but he also follows in the footsteps of his father, Chris Thomas, who captained the Flyers during his own junior hockey career. Now, the Thomas legacy continues with Kam leading the team he grew up watching.

“Obviously, growing up in Winkler, it’s a pretty special honour to be named captain of the Flyers. It’s also a pretty cool moment for my family and me, as my dad used to be captain here as well. It’s a really exciting opportunity, and I can’t wait to get back at it in the early fall.” – Kam Thomas

With high expectations for the upcoming season, Thomas will be counted on to set the tone both on and off the ice. His connection to the community and commitment to the Flyers identity make him an ideal choice to wear the “C.”
