The Winkler Flyers played host to the Neepawa Titans Tuesday night. Looking to even up their record on the year at 2 -2.
Charles Bernier scored his 3rd of the year, just 38 seconds into the first, followed by his 4th of the year just over 5 minutes later. The Titans struck back before the end of the frame, sending it to the first intermission 2 – 1.
The 2nd period saw the physicality ramp up with 6 roughing penalties as the “after-the-whistle extracurriculars” started. Neither team could capitalize on their power play as Owen Wallace scored the only goal of the frame at even strength. 3 – 1 Flyers.
The 3rd period started with Carson Hiebert scoring his first goal as a Flyer, followed by fellow Winklerite and Captain, Kam Thomas putting the Flyers up 5 – 1. The Titans started to claw their way back, scoring short-handed, then adding another just over a minute later, making it 5 – 3 and setting up an interesting last 10 minutes. The Flyers bent but did not break. Charles Bernier scored with the empty net to cap off his hat trick, his first of his junior career!
The Flyers are back in action Sunday afternoon as the Steinbach Pistons roll into town!
