The Neepawa Titans rolled into town Tuesday evening for their first matchup with The Flyers in the 26/27 season.
Action started early with Charles Bernier notching his 3rd of the year just 38 seconds into the first. Yet again, just over 5 minutes later, Bernier found the back of the net, putting the Flyers up 2-0. Neepawa would climb back to within one before ending the period, 2-1.
Roughing penalties were the story of the 2nd as the physicality ramped up, and tempers flared. Both teams were unable to score on their power plays. Owen Wallace scored the lone goal of the period off an absolute rip from the slot. 3-1 Flyers.
What the 2nd period lacked in goals, the 3rd made up for it. Hometowner Carson Hiebert notched his first as a Flyer early, followed by fellow Winklerite and team Captain, Kam Thomas, exactly 1 minute later. The Flyers, now up 5-1, started to waver, giving up a short-handed goal as the Titans dug in, scoring again to make it 5-3, setting up an interesting last 10 minutes. The Titans were not able to cap off the comeback as Charles Bernier netted an empty-net goal for his 3rd of the game, and 1st hat trick of his Junior career!
Ultimately, the Flyers bent, but did not break, winning 5 -3 and securing their first win in their new barn. Now sitting with a record of 2 -2, the Steinbach Pistons roll into town on Sunday for an afternoon tilt!
