Big game at the Meridian Exhibition Centre last night as the Winkler Flyers took on the number 1 seated Niverville Nighthawks on Billet and Family Appreciation Weekend.
The Flyers ended up on the right side of a PowerPlay just 1:20 into the first period. Tanner George used this opportunity to cash the games opening goal taking the much important lead. Josh Ingram then potted his 2nd of the year with a seeing eye shot from the point! Niverville ended up clawing one back before the 1st period ended.
The 2nd period saw the Flyers take back the 2 goal lead, trading goals with the Nighthawks but ending the period on the right side of 5-3 with goals from Riley Fequet, Aiden Jacobson, and Niklas Gudmundson!
Holding onto the lead, Tanner George scored his 2nd of the game, with Charles Bernier posting an empty net goal to end the Niverville Nighthawks 16 game win streak.
The game was a preview of a potential first round playoff matchup with an exciting atmosphere in the house. The team showed up and put together a hard nosed well fought game against a tough opponent!
Graeme Pickering put together 2 assists to earn himself the JR Bearing player of the game honours!
