The Winkler Flyers took on the Steinbach Pistons at the ICON Arena Friday night in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Winkler jumped ahead by two midway through the first with goals from Bennett Scissons and a Powerplay goal from D-man Justin Belanger. Steinbach managed to pot one on the PP to pull within a goal before the first period. Steinbach started the first strong, tying the game up, before Connor Vandal scored the go ahead goal with under two minutes left in the frame. The third period started strong with Noah Stott scoring early, but the Pistons clawed back midway through the frame to make it a one goal game. Winkler local, Mason Froese, put the game out of reach for the Pistons with under five minutes to play, securing the win for the Orange and Black.
The Flyers played a strong, physical game with some new faces in the lineup. Saturday, the team heads to Steinbach for the Home and Home pre season start against the Pistons.
