Following a huge win over the Niverville Nighthawks on Friday night, the Flyers came into Saturday night’s contest riding high. Swan Valley had been hot of late and were looking to continue their search for the playoffs.

Similar to how the game started the previous evening, Winkler came out of the gate and jumped into an early lead when Nikolas Gudmundson slid a sharp angle shot into the net for his 27th goal of the year. Fresh off some time on the injury list, Trevor Dalton tipped home a Rhylan Baxter point shot for a power play goal, giving the Flyers a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
Tanner George carried on with his hot streak, scoring just over 2 minutes into the frame, giving him 8 points in the last 3 contests. Winkler managed to play well over the course of the period, not giving up many chances to the opposition. Charlie Weaver provided some excitement with another highlight real snipe, his second in as many nights, extending the Flyers lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes.
Aside from a few tense moments in front of the Winkler goal, as Liam Russell held the fort in goal, the period belonged to the Flyers. Will Lyons capped off a nice passing play from Kade Stringer and Tanner George making it 5-0. Nik Gudmundson helped the Flyers power play goal 2 for 2 on the evening with his second of the game, blasting a shot in from the high slot. Charlie Weaver capped the night off with his second marker of the game, finalizing things for a 7-0 victory in front of a full house with lots of family and friends in attendance. Winkler ended up scoring 14 goals in 2 games over the weekend and really couldn’t have come away with a better result. Liam Russell stopped all 30 of the shots he faced for his first ever MJHL shutout.

Next up for the Flyers is another home game Tuesday night (February 10th) vs the Portage Terriers, in battle for 3rd place in the MGEU eastern conference.
