Winkler Flyers vs. Winnipeg Blues February 3 2026
The Winkler Flyers hosted the Winnipeg Blues Tuesday night and hoped to kick off a string of home contests with a good effort.

With a few notables out of the lineup for the night, Flyers called up Hudson Champagne from the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA Program to suit up for his first MJHL game. Champagne has 27 goals and 22 assists for a total of 49 points in 41 games this season with Brandon.
Much like they did this past Saturday night against the Blues, Winkler came out of the gate ready to go, creating some really good scoring opportunities. Connor Rieger capitalized on a nice feed from Kade Stinger, giving the Flyers an early lead 6:39 into the first. Will Lyons followed up just over a minute later with a low shot off the rush, making it 2-0 after one period of play.
The Flyers kept up the pace in the second period as Ethan MacTavish scored his first goal of the game on a loose puck in the crease after Niklas Gudmundson rung one off the crossbar. Winkler exploded for 3 goals in 2 minutes later on in the frame, with Niklas Gudmundson burying a quick shot on goal and extending the lead to 3-0. Kade Stringer went to work (again) along the wall and found an open Charlie Weaver who went bar down with a beautiful wrister. William Lyons capped off the flurry with his second marker of the game into an open cage after the Flyers had the Blues chasing the puck in their own end. Flyers enjoyed a 6-0 lead after 40 minutes.
The Blues managed to find the scoreboard with a goal of their own 6:47 into the third period on a rush down the ice and a perfectly placed shot off the far post and in. Shortly afterwards, Ethan MacTavish scored his second goal of the contest making it 7-1. After that, the Blues managed to score once more after a giveaway in front of the Flyers net but that would be it for them as Winkler cruised to a 7-2 win on home ice.

Notes: Liam Russell saved 20 of the 22 shots he faced, while the Flyers finished with 36 shots. Ethan MacTavish finished with 3 points (2G,1A), Aiden Jacobson with 4 assists, Will Lyons 2g, and Niklas Gudmundson 1G, 1A.

Next up: The Nighthawks are in town Friday night (7:30pm) and the Flyers host Swan Valley Saturday Saturday evening on Billet Night (7:30pm).
