Flyers Defenseman Nick Dobson Committs to Concordia University of Edmonton

The Winkler Flyers are proud to announce the commitment of defenseman Nick Dobson to the Concordia University of Edmonton Men’s Hockey Program.

Nick Dobson joined the Flyers for the second half of the 2021-2022 season as Winkler acquired him at the trade deadline in January from the Weyburn Red Wings in the SJHL. Dobson is a graduating skater and is in his final season of junior hockey, he has played 106 junior hockey games where he amassed 37 points (6 goals and 31 assists) and 160 PIM’s over that span. Since joining the Flyers for the second half of the 2021-2022 season Dobson had 11 points in 24 games. Nick is a top notch leader on and off the ice, and plays a gritty defensive style game.

“It’s in province, where I’m from so I’m able to commute back and forth pretty easy if I want to see my family and friends.” Dobson stated on what led him to committing to the Concordia Thunderbirds. “I’ve heard nothing but good things, they made it to the ACAC finals this year, and hoping to win one next year.”

“It’s been amazing to play here, it’s a really detailed system and the coaches really pushed me to be a lot better and improve my game.” Dobson reflected on his time in Winkler.

We asked Flyers GM and Head Coach Justin Falk how Nick has impacted the Flyers this season, “When acquiring Nick at the deadline, we were looking for a veteran defenseman to bring in additional experience and leadership to our back end. Nick’s energy and enthusiasm within the day to day were contagious within our group going down the stretch. It was a pleasure to have had Nick in our program and wish him all the best at Concordia University come fall.”

The Flyers organization would like to thank Nick for his efforts and him on his achievement. We wish you all the best in your hockey endeavours!
