Flyers Sign Forward Zach Nicolas(’04)

The Winkler Flyers are excited to announce that the club has signed Zach Nicolas (2004) from Winnipeg, MB.

Nicolas spent the 2021-22 season with the Northern Cyclones in the USPHL Premier league, where he scored 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points in 35 games played.

“Definitely playing with older guys, I was the youngest by about 2 years. It was my first year of junior hockey, and a great year for improvement seeing a new level of hockey” Nicolas talked about his 2021-22 season.

Nicolas spoke on how it felt to be signed by the Winkler Flyers “Very exciting, especially with the skate on Harvest Festival weekend, it already felt like home with a great group of guys. I can’t wait for the season to start.”

Head Coach and General Manager Justin Falk spoke to us about what kind of player Nicolas is “”Zach is a talented young player with a wide array of skill sets. Whether playing off his strong shot, using his size to his advantage down low, or using his speed wide down the wing, he knows how and when to utilize his strengths to his advantage. The conversations over the last year and experiences on the ice we’ve have had with Zach this past summer it’s clear the positive energy he will bring to our room. He is motivated and hungry to learn and develop. We are excited about the addition of Zach to our team and look forward to working with him this upcoming season.”

“The coaching staff have been supporting me through everything and have been very good to me.” Nicolas explained why he chose to sign with the Flyers “Seems like a great organization to be in, with a great hockey team.”

Nicolas talked about what kind of player he is “I like to get into corners and battle, and I’m more of a pass before shoot kind of guy, I’m always looking for the open guy, and always ready to make plays”

The Winkler Flyers want to send a warm welcome to Zach and his family to the Flyers Organization
Nicolas wanted to send a message to Flyers fans “I’m very excited to play in front of them this season, I’ve heard a lot about them, and I can’t wait to be there”
