Pre Game Report

Game Recap

The Flyers found a way to best the unbeaten Pistons on Friday night thanks to timely scoring and fantastic goaltending.

Winkler came out strong early on scoring in the first minute of the game thanks to a nice play by Logan Danis. A short while later, Nicholas McKee broke into the Steinbach zone and found Justin Svenson in the slot where he made no mistake burying his shot through the five hole. Nolan Henderson picked up his first point as a Flyer with an assist on the goal. From there on it was Steinbach putting on the pressure as they sent 11 shots on goal in the first frame. One of those a snipe from Quinton Pepper after he wristed a shot past Dylan Meilun, cutting Winkler’s lead in half.

It was the Pistons who kicked off the second period with an early marker scored by Hunter Deggleman, tying the game at 2-2. Steinbach continued their strong play throughout the second period but were not able to solve Meilun. The Pistons finished the frame with 15 shots on goal (26 total) compared to 5 (15 total) from the Flyers.

The Pistons didn’t let up in the third but it was Brody Beauchemin scoring for the Flyers that put the home team in the lead. Svenson factored into the goal after he sent a hard shot towards the net and Beauchemin cleaned up the loose puck. The Pistons played hard to the final bell, accumulating 41 shots on net. Dylan Meilun came up with the save of the game on an incredible blocker save late in the period, which sealed the victory for the Winkler Flyers.

The Pistons will host the Flyers in the final game of this 4 game set, Saturday night at 7:30pm in Steinbach.
