Weekend Recap: Flyers Split 1-1 To Blizzard Friday, Saturday – Fall To Terriers Sunday

In the team’s second weekend of three games in three nights, the Winkler Flyers faced off against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard on Friday and Saturday, finishing with a split as they battled back in a hard-fought comeback that just fell short in game two. The weekend concluded with a stop in Portage, where the Flyers faced the Terriers, ultimately coming up short in a 3-1 loss.

Friday: Flyers 5, Blizzard 2
On Friday night, the Flyers faced the Northern Manitoba Blizzard and came away with a solid 5-2 win. Winkler started strong, with Bernier and Legaarden scoring in the first period, giving the team a 2-1 lead. Mathys Blanchette added another goal in the second, and the Flyers capped it off with goals from Carlone and Peters in the third. Goaltender Liam Ernst made 24 saves, helping to secure the victory.

Saturday: Flyers 6, Blizzard 7
The Flyers met the Blizzard again on Saturday in a hard fought rematch. After trailing for much of the game, Winkler showed great resilience, rallying back with goals from Lavoie and Craik. In a wild third period, the Flyers scored four goals but fell just short, losing 7-6. Despite the loss, the team’s fighting spirit was clear.

Sunday: Flyers 1, Terriers 3
On Sunday, Winkler faced the Portage Terriers. The Flyers struck first, with McKee scoring early in the second period. However, the Terriers quickly answered back, scoring three unanswered goals to take control of the match. The Flyers pressed hard but couldn’t find a way to break through. Ernst had a busy night in goal, making 35 saves on 38 shots.
