The Winkler Flyers have traded veteran defenseman Jacob Sargent (’03) to the Kam River Fighting Walleye of the SIJHL for a Player Development Fee.
Jacob played all three years of his junior hockey career with the Flyers, suiting up for 102 games and scoring 7 goals and 18 assists for 25 points.
Sarge also played an integral role in the hockey culture within the Flyers organization, being the first one to the rink and the last one to leave.
General Manager & Head Coach Justin Falk explained what Jacob meant to the Flyers “Sarge has played an integral role in building the culture here in Winkler. The professionalism and work ethic that he brought daily has rubbed off on many of the players in this room and we thank him for his efforts and contribution to the team and City of Winkler. This organization is truly better after having Jacob pass through it. Although a hard day for our locker room and team, we are happy for Jacob that he gets to fulfill his wishes and be able to play the remainder of the 20 year old season with his brother, in front of his family and for his hometown team he grew up cheering for.”
Sarge, we wish you all the best moving forward, and will miss having you around the rink every day. Thank you for everything you have done as a Flyer, and for the community of Winkler.
