FLYERS ADD TOWNSEND IN BIG SUMMER TRADE – JULY 17

The Winkler Flyers have acquired 20 year old forward Jaden Townsend (00) from the Lloydminster Bobcats (AJHL) in exchange for a player development fee (PDF). The Roblin, MB native served as the Captain of the Swan Valley Stampeders last season and is a key pick up for the Orange and Black heading into the 2019-2020 season.

Townsend will be entering his fourth season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, playing his first three seasons with the Stampeders. The 6’0”, 194lbs forward recorded 36 points (18 Goals – 18 Assists) with Swan Valley last season and served as the Team Captain on a veteran laden club that made it to the MJHL final in 2018-2019.

“Jaden is exactly the type of player we are looking for,” said Flyers General Manager Jeff Jeanson.

“He is an extremely hard worker. He will fit in great with the veteran players we have coming back and will be a great mentor for the good crop of younger players that we have as well,” added Jeanson.

Townsend is a “200 foot player” who is a tenacious defender, contributes offensively and has good leadership skills that will be a huge benefit both on and off the ice.

Townsend was sent to Lloydminster from Swan Valley at the conclusion of the season to complete a future considerations deal from earlier in the season.

The Flyers would like to welcome Jaden and his family to the Flyers organization and look forward to seeing him in an Orange and Black uniform this fall.
