Flyers Sign Prospect Kobey Edwards (’06)

The Winkler Flyers are excited to announce that the club has signed Kobey Edwards (2006) from Winnipeg, MB.

Edwards spent the 2022-23 season with the Winnipeg Bruins in the Manitoba AAA U18 League where he scored 6 goals, 7 assists for 13 points and 87 Penalty Minutes in 33 games played. He also played 3 games in the 2023 MJHL Playoffs for your Winkler Flyers!

“I signed a letter of intent with they Flyers because the day I got there I knew it was the organization that could not only develop my hockey skills but develop how I am as a person as well.” Edwards gave his thoughts on why he signed with the Flyers and what signing means to him “It’s been an aspiration of mine to sign with a junior team of Winkler’s calibre for awhile now and to have it happen brings me joy but also a new drive to be better not only for me but for the organization I now represent.”

Head Coach and General Manager Justin Falk spoke to us about what kind of player Edwards is “Kobey showed over the last calendar season that he is physically ready to make the jump to Junior A hockey. He understands his role and identity within our group and organization and has been a great teammate to his peers in the room throughout the different stints he was brought up. We look forward to the growth and development of Eddy’s game here in Winkler. A warm welcome to Kobey and his family!”

“In the time I spent with the organization I learned every day is a grind and that you must be strict and dedicated to really succeed and that’s what I love about this team. Success comes from hard work, and I like that mentality that Winkler has, to not only succeed individually but as a team as well.” Edwards explained what he learned about the Flyers organization while he was with the team at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Edwards also gave some insight to what type of player he is, and what he hopes to bring to the Flyers “For those who haven’t seen my game I would say I’m a power forward who likes to give a hit but also contribute to the offensive and defensive side of the puck. My biggest goal is to be a threat on all sides of the puck. I hope to bring the fire and intensity to every game and be an impactful piece of the Winkler Flyers puzzle.”

The Winkler Flyers want to send a warm welcome to Kobey and his family to the Winkler Flyers organization.
