FLYERS THRILLED WITH 2016 BANTAM DRAFT CLASS – JUNE 5

The Winkler Flyers added five new players to the fold during the 2016 Manitoba Junior Hockey League Bantam Draft in Selkirk. All players selected in this year’s draft were born in 2001. The Flyers are very pleased with the players selected this year, as it only strengthens the group of young men who will be wearing the Orange and Black in the years to come.

“We were able to add a good mix of players this year that will definitely be able to help us in the future. We added a lot of skill and defensive size.” Said Flyers Head Scout Craig Anderson.

Below is a list of the players drafted by the Flyers this year, along with comments from the scouting staff.

Round One (9th overall): F Miguel Tetreault (5’9”, 128lbs) (Winnipeg Warriors) – Hard nosed right winger who is fast on the puck and played on the Warriors top line this past season. Shows good hockey smarts and showed tremendous growth as the year went along.

Round Two (20th overall): F Alex Cattani (5’9”, 165lbs) (Winnipeg Monarchs) – Skilled centreman with a scoring touch. Solid two way game with the capability to play on the Flyers top line and against the other teams top line.

Round Three (31st overall): F Colton Friesen (5’3”, 108lbs) (Winnipeg Warriors) – Small, highly skilled playmaker with good hockey sense, makes players around him better.

Round Four (38th overall): D Jordan Chudley (6’0”, 149lbs) (Southwest Cougars) – Big two way defenseman that can add offense from the back end. Does a good job of getting pucks to the front of the net. Size makes him tough to play against in his own zone.

Round Four (42nd overall): D Cody Shearer (5’11”, 157lbs) (Southwest Cougars) – Big stay at home defenseman who makes a good first pass. Good in his own zone and plays a smart and simple game.

The Flyers would like to welcome Miguel, Alex, Colton, Jordan, Cody and their families to the Flyers organization.
