Unrau Signs Letter Of Intent

The Winkler Flyers are excited to announce that the club has signed another player to a letter of intent.

The club has signed defenceman Dobie Unrau(2004) from East St. Paul Manitoba.

Unrau was drafted 36th overall by the Flyers in the 2019 MJHL Draft. He spent the last 2 seasons with the Winnipeg Thrashers in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League, where he became captain of the team for the 2021-22 season. This season has been his most productive on the stats sheet as well, putting up 3 goals and 20 assists in 30 games played. Unrau is a smooth skating puck moving defenseman who has shown great skill this season.

“It’s a great community they have here, lots of great fans, a great barn obviously and a great team.” Said Dobie about signing his letter of intent with the Flyers.

GM and Head Coach Justin Falk is excited to have Unrau join the Flyers.

“Dobie has continued to take great strides since training camp.  Leading with his Hockey IQ, awareness and ability to manage the game both with the puck and while defending, Dobie has shown tremendous growth in his two-way game.  Dobie has a high ceiling, and we are excited to have him join our program.  We look forward to watching Dobie lead the Winnipeg Thrashers down the stretch.”

Flyers Director of player personnel Riley Dudar has been impressed with what he has seen from Unrau this year.

“Dobie is an intelligent player who moves really well and plays with his eyes up while handling the puck, allowing him to make positive plays in all three zones. Spending time on the ice with him, I was impressed with his attitude, coachability, and how quickly he is able to learn and apply new skills. I think Dobie will be a leader for us and a great player in the league sometime soon. “

The Winkler Flyers are excited to have a strong skating defenseman commit to our program, and look forward to seeing him in Orange and Black!

GM and Head Coach Justin Falk welcomed Unrau to the Flyers.
