Winkler Flyers vs. Selkirk Steelers Dec. 10th 2024

The Winkler Flyers picked up a dominant 3-0 victory over the Selkirk Steelers on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at home, backstopped by a stellar performance from goaltender Liam Ernst.

Winkler wasted no time taking control of the game, outshooting Selkirk 11-3 in the first period. The pressure paid off late in the frame when Kam Thomas opened the scoring on the Powerplay, netting his 10th goal of the season. Nicholas McKee and Blake Matheson picked up the assists on the Powerplay marker.

In the second, the Flyers continued to dictate play and extended their lead. Brody Beauchemin buried his 10th of the year off a setup from Brady Craik and Liam Carlone, making it 2-0 Winkler. Selkirk managed to fire seven shots in the period but couldn’t find a way past Ernst.

The third period saw the Flyers seal the deal as Jayce Legaarden notched his team-leading 15th goal. Will Lyons and Max Lavoie provided the helpers on the insurance marker. Despite Selkirk’s push in the final frame, where they registered 12 shots, Ernst stood tall and earned the shutout with a 22-save performance.

The Flyers were sharp on the penalty kill, successfully shutting down all four Selkirk power play opportunities. Winkler also controlled the shot count, outshooting Selkirk 37-22.

With the win, Winkler continues their strong season, showcasing depth scoring and solid defensive play. Goalie Liam Ernst was the difference-maker in net, securing his league leading fourth shutout of the campaign.
