Winkler Flyers Assistant Captain Drake Burgin and Head Coach Kelvin Cech have been nominated in three categories for the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Year End Awards. Burgin has been nominated for the Most Valuable Player and Defenseman of the Year awards, while Cech is up for the Coach of the Year honour.
Burgin is in his second season with the Orange and Black and currently sits second on the team with 50 points (10 Goals – 40 Assists) and has played in all 57 games this season. Cech has led the Flyers to a great rebound season, in his first year behind the bench. After failing to reach the MJHL post-season for just the second time in team history in 2018-2019, the Flyers have gone 36-16-5 through 57 regular season games and currently sit in the third place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Standings all while returning just five players from last season’s team.
The award winners will be announced in the coming days. The Flyers would like to congratulate both Drake and Kelvin on their nominations.
