FLYERS ADD TWO PLAYERS AND FUTURES IN MID-SUMMER TRADE

The Winkler Flyers have added F Cameron Whyte (95) and D Jon Carlson (94) as part of a three team trade involving the Dauphin Kings and Portage Terriers. As part of the move, the Flyers sent the rights to D Tanner Jago (94) to the Terriers for the two players as well as future considerations.

The trade involved the Kings sending D Jordan Thomson (96) and F Cameron Whyte (95) to the RBC cup host Portage Terriers. Whyte was then traded to the Flyers along with D Jon Carlson (94) and future considerations. Portage received D Tanner Jago (94) from Winkler.

Jon Carlson is a 6’1”, 196lbs defenseman from Fort Frances, Ontario who had 18 points (8 goals – 10 assists) in 57 games played with Portage during the 2013-2014 season. Carlson is a good leader and a great guy to have in the dressing room. He makes a good first pass out of the zone and plays physical. He will provide leadership and stability to the Flyers young defense corps. He has been an assistant captain in the past.

Cameron Whyte is a 5’10”, 181lbs forward from Virden, Manitoba. In 57 games played with the Kings last season, Whyte had 21 points (9 goals – 12 assists). He is a skilled, top six forward who makes those around him better. He is a non-selfish playmaker who will be a great contributor on the Flyers power-play. Whyte is a quality kid with great leadership qualities.

Tanner Jago played two seasons with the Flyers (2011-2012, 2012-2013) before heading down south to play for the Fargo Force (USHL) last season. The Brandon, Manitoba product has a scholarship to attend Bentley College (NCAA Div I) in Waltham, Massachusetts for the 2015-2016 season.

“Tanner put it two good years with us. It was tough trading him but this move will make us better in short term and long term and we wish him all the best in Portage.” Said Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Ken Pearson.

The Flyers would like to welcome Jon, Cam and their families to the Flyers Organization and wish Tanner all the best with the RBC Cup host Portage Terriers.
