WINKLER PICKS UP SHORTREED AND CUSACK IN TRADE WITH BLUES – JUNE 17

The Winkler Flyers have acquired F Sulivan Shortreed (00) and D Riley Cusack (00) from the Winnipeg Blues in exchange for F Josh Kagan (00) and a 3rd Round Draft Pick in 2020. The move adds size, offensive punch and some defensive responsibility to a club that was near the bottom of the MJHL in goals scored and goals allowed last season.

Sulivan Shortreed (00) is a 6’3”, 172lbs physical forward from Fort Frances, Ontario. He had 26 points (18 Goals – 8 Assists) in 45 regular season games played with the Blues last season. He added five points (4 Goals – 1 Assist) in six playoff games. Shortreed is also a great character player with a good work ethic.

Riley Cusack (00) is a 6’1”, 181lbs right handed defenseman from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The 19 year old had 16 points (5 Goals – 11 Assists) and 53 penalty minutes in 57 games played with the Blues last season. Cusack is a solid, defensive minded player who will help steady the Flyers defense corps and will bring experience and character to the Flyers blueline.

Going the other way is Josh Kagan, who had 25 points (11 Goals – 14 Assists) in 48 games with the Flyers last season.

The Flyers would like to thank Josh and his family for everything during the past season and wish him all the best in Winnipeg. The Flyers would also like to officially welcome Sulivan, Riley and their families to the Orange and Black and look forward to seeing them on the ice this fall.
